RGRU: New Norm in the Labour Market

It is estimated that up to a third of candidates openly inform employers about second jobs or external projects. In several sectors, such employment has become the norm, and companies increasingly have to consider it when creating the primary work schedule.

Anastasia Kotlova, Head of recruitment group at Selecty:
«Side jobs are not prohibited and comply with the requirements of the Russian Labour Code. An employee’s desire to develop, expand professional skills, or perhaps try new directions is a positive factor.
It is important that they don’t affect the quality of their main work duties and that the relationship between the employer and the employee is built on trust and honest dialogue».
If a side job is related to financial motivation, it makes sense to discuss the possibility of reviewing pay. If it’s about personal interest or a desire for professional growth, we approach this with understanding and respect.

Undoubtedly, a decent salary level is an important factor in employee motivation, but it’s not the only one. The quality and engagement of work are strongly influenced by the manager’s leadership skills, clear goal-setting, established processes within the company and the employee’s personal qualities.

Anastasia Kotlova, Head of recruitment group at Selecty:
«An employee’s productivity can change from time to time. This is normal. It is important to be able to notice this in time, understand the reasons and openly discuss the situation with the employee, rather than jump to conclusions».
If an employee decides to work concurrently, their ability to self-organize and manage their personal resources will play a crucial role. Without a good level of time management, a side job can lead to a situation described by the classic proverb: «If you chase two rabbits, you’ll catch neither».

A benefits package is a strong motivational factor and can play an important role when choosing an employer.

Anastasia Kotlova, Head of recruitment group at Selecty:
«In our company, we pay great attention to this: we offer employees compensation for fitness, taxis, meals and communication, extended voluntary medical insurance and we also support corporate life.

We also see in practice that for many candidates, the benefits package turns out to be more important than the amount of salary. On numerous occasions, it has been the package of benefits that has become the deciding factor when accepting an offer».
Selecty offers a balanced combination of a decent compensation level and a well-thought-out benefits package. It’s precisely this approach that allows us to foster long-term motivation and retain strong specialists.
